Teaching center of experimental physics of School of science of Hohai university was established in 1952, whose predecessor was the experimental laboratory for department of basic courses of original east China institute of water conservancy, now belonging to Hohai university school of science.

With the development and construction for half a century , it has been developed from a single common physics laboratory that only occupies more than 400 square meters, and offers hundreds of thousands of yuan of instruments and equipment,  into the comeprehensive one with a total construction area of 2150 square meters, including instruments and equipment assets amounted to 4.09 million yuan,  providing General  Physics Laboratory, the Modern Physics Laboratory, the Laboratory of Photoelectric Yechnology, Sensor Technology Laboratory and the Microcontroller Technology Lab.

At present, the Center of Experimental Physics is in charge of experimental physics teaching  the whole school,  including 27 majors of science and engineering, 76 classes with 2500 students,  the total teaching time reaches up to 160000 class hours per year, and it has become the largest teaching experiment center in Hohai university.

Teaching center of Experimental Physics offers "college physics experiment" for science and engineering undergraduate students in our school, and "General Physics Experiment", "Modern Physics Experiment", "Sensor Technology Experiment", "Photoelectric Technology Experiment" and "Single Chip Microcomputer Technology Experiment", etc. for the physics majored students.

Teaching center of experimental physics adopts the way of combination of necessary experiments and free options of other experiments on the curriculum. It has become the basic experimental teaching base with the largest area, the most teaching work and the longest time for open teaching method.

Teaching center of experimental physics passed the "basic course teaching laboratory appraisal" on June 3, 1999 arranged by the education committee of Jiangsu province and Jiangsu Agency for Educational Evaluation authorized by ministry of education of China, which is the key construction of one of the basic experiment center of "211 project" in our school.

Teaching center of experimental physics now has teachers and experimental technical personnel of 15 people, including associate professor and senior engineer of 5 people, lecturer and engineer of 5 people, teaching assistants and of 5 assistant engineers. The core teaching body of the center includes 1 doctor, 3 PhD candidates, 9 people with master's degree, 4 university undergraduates and 1 junior college graduate.

In recent years, the amount of published papers and works of the teachers in the center is increasing year by year. The total number of published scientific research and teaching works are more than 60 since 2001.

For the aspect of teaching instrument design, the center got 2 items with the third prize of national education committee, 1 item of provincial colleges and universities award with the second prize, 3 items for audio-visual teaching materials with the second prize of excellent teaching material award in ministerial level, 1 honorable mention. Many school-class rewards. Results list is as follows:
   "Electronic and field experiment instrument": "The third prize of excellent research physical instrument on higher education” by the state education commission. "Thermodynamics demonstration equipment": "The third prize of excellent research physical instrument on higher education” by the state education commission.
"Temperature sensor experiment device" won the second prize for homemade experimental apparatus of college groups of teaching system for Jiangsu province. "Wave interference and coherent conditions" won the second prize in excellent teaching materials of common colleges and universities in Jiangsu province "Self-induction mutual inductance phenomenon" won the honorable mention for the second best audiovisual education teaching excellence by national power system. Participated in the TV spot piece of "college physics" and won the second prize of national excellent education audio and video publications.Participated in the "college physics" (audio and video text combining teaching material) and won the second prize of the ministry of education of excellent teaching material.

   For the aspect of production and scientific research, the center was awarded for 1 item with the first prize of national science and technology progress award, 1 item with the third prize of science and technology progress by the ministry of water resources, 2 item with the third prize of science and technology progress of Nanjing, many school-level rewards, won two national invention patents, 5 utility model patents. Results list is as follows:
Temperature in Daya bay nuclear power plant emissions physical model research project was awarded the first prize for national science and technology progress. Close its mouth filling and outside channel model test research won the third prize of science and technology progress of the project.Get the third prize for "Electronic and field experiment instrument" project of Nanjing science and technology progress. Get the third prize for "Gas textile machinery computer fault detection system" project of Nanjing science and technology progress. "Optical CT perpendicular coordinate meter" won the national invention patent.
